“This past weekend, our committee members and friends celebrated Christmas at our ‘Hafa Adai’ Christmas party. We thought of teaming up to donate to Karidat. …We’re proud to support Karidat’s efforts in making a difference in the lives of children throughout the island,” said 2015 SYP chair Mable Ayuyu.
Ayuyu was joined by SYP member Jeaniffer Cubangbang in donating the toys to the non-profit organization. Karidat executive director Lauri Ogumoro and Judith Pangelinan accepted the donation on behalf of Karidat.
“This is a beautiful donation made by the Saipan Young Professionals. The children that get these toys will be very fortunate,” said Ogumoro.
Karidat’s Christmas Toy Drive began in the 1980’s and has been an annual program since then.
According to Ogumoro, many organizations used to donate toys to Karidat during the holiday season. “This year was especially hard [for us] because of the recent typhoon that had hit the islands,” said Ogumoro. She added that the people who were generally very giving have needs of their own and that the organization understands that this has been a difficult year for everyone.
When asked about her experience in participating with SYP’s donation to Karidat, Cubangbang said, “As a parent, I know what joy it brings to see my child receive a gift. There are families still recovering from the Soudelor devastation and may not have the resources to purchase a gift for their child, therefore donating a gift this holiday season is a simple way of making a difference in someone’s life.”
The Saipan Young Professionals would like to encourage young professionals, business organizations, and community members on island to donate to the Karidat Christmas Toy Drive. The Karidat office will be accepting toy donations until Monday, Dec. 22, at their location in Chalan Piao.
“We’d also like to thank our Saipan Young Professionals Committee members and friends for helping us in making a meaningful difference for children this year,” said Ayuyu. (SCC)
