Apatang is confirmed to Civil Service board
The Senate confirmed the appointment of Valeria Q. Apatang as a member of the Civil Service Commission to represent Rota during a regular session on that island Friday.
The Senate confirmed Apatang’s appointment nearly three months after Gov. Eloy S. Inos nominated her to the post in September.
In his nomination letter, Inos stated that if Apatang’s nomination is confirmed, she will serve a six-year term that will start on the date of her confirmation.
“I am confident that Ms. Apatang is qualified and will be an asset on the important commission,” he said.
Other members of the commission are CSC chair Herman “HR” Guerrero; Felicitas “Tee” P. Abraham, vice chair from Saipan; Catalina Tebit, also from Saipan; Charles M. Calvo; and Arsene Borja, from Tinian. One Saipan seat remains vacant.
Apatang earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and associate degree in Human Services Management from the University of Phoenix. She used to be the administrative officer and program coordinator at the Office on Aging on Rota as well as administrative assistant at the Office of the Mayor.
The Civil Service Commission is composed of seven members appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the senate. Six members serve a term of six years, in such manner that the term of one member expires each year, and one member serving a term of four years expiring concurrently with the term of the governor.
