Lito Mendoza topped the year’s final Fil-Taga Ace of the Month Tournament, winning the December title after Sunday’s tournament at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.
Mendoza fired 40 and 39 at the front and back to finish with a 79 gross and with a 15 handicap gave him a net score of 64 for a three-shot win over Raffy Piamonte.
Mendoza now joins 16 other Fil-Taga Ace of the Month winners that will vie for the yearend title. Fil-Taga has yet to announce details of the yearend tournament—date, time, and venue.
Vic Roman and Randy Tudela (A and B, January); Jhun Ortiz and Raffy Piamonte (A and B, February); Ernie Lopez (March); Paul Bea (April); and Larry Pascual and Dandito Breboneria (A and B, May) are some of the FilTaga Ace of the Month winners.
William Retardo (June); Freddie Cataluna and Ruben Avendano (A and B, July); Greg Castro (August); Nestor Siruelo (September), Rene Batallones (October), and Eric Mandell and Norman Tenorio (A and B, November) also earned berths to the FilTaga Ace of the Year.
Piamonte finished with a 67 net after shooting a 47 and 48 for the 95 gross and with a 28 handicap earned him that final score.
Hak Chon Bae and Tony Cabrera had 69 each to end up tied for third to fourth places, while former associate judge Juan Lizama was fifth with a 73.
Gil Faller (74), Batallones (75), Adony Matutino and Bea (77 apiece), and Pascual (78) complete the Top 10 finishers.
Mike Cruz (79), Avendano (81), Retardo and Cataluna (82 apiece), and Mandell and Lopez (83 apiece) are the other Fil-Taga members who joined Sunday’s tee-off.
Cataluna was the closest to the pin winner in one of the four par-3 holes doing it in hole No. 4. Faller, Bae, and Cataluna equaled the feat in No. 6, 11, and 15.
