CUC works to trace sources of water leaks
As engineers and operators work to enhance the islandwide water transmission and distribution system, the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. continues to identify and address issues that have led to intermittent water service in several villages.
CUC customers in the villages of Upper Navy Hill, Chinatown, and Upper Miha continue to receive intermittent water service due to an issue with a high-production well at the Calhoun reservoir. At nearly 600 feet deep, the Calhoun well is one of the deepest on island. CUC Operations personnel will begin motor and pump retrieval and replacement work on the two-day project today, Dec. 15.
Also today, CUC customers in the vicinity of the Obyan well field will begin scheduled water service hours between 7am and 4pm. The scheduled hours will continue until further notice as crews investigate suspected major leaks in the area.
CUC water customers in Kagman have also experienced intermittent water service as CUC works to pinpoint the loss of a large amount of water in the area that drained the reservoir. Engineering and Operations personnel are performing system-wide pressure testing that will continue until the source of the problem has been identified. Until the cause is identified and addressed, Kagman customers will experience limited water service hours.
