Raymond Santos ruled the men’s 62kg division as Team GetFit CNMI went home with four medals in the inaugural 2015 Micronesia Weightlifting Invitational held last Saturday at The Jungle inside the Father Duenas Memorial School in Mangilao.

Santos, weighing 61.20kg, had lifts of 100kg in the snatch and 120kg in the clean and jerk in the three attempts given to each lifter.

The 24-year-old, who won three silver medals in the same weight category in last year’s Micronesian Games in Pohnpei, had a 220kg total lift.

Based on results given by Joey Tudela, who settled for bronze in the men’s 85kg division, Santos failed in his attempt of lifting 110kg in the snatch and 130kg in the clean and jerk in his final tries.

And with the tournament using the Sinclair method, where an athlete’s body weight is multiplied with his total lift, the GetFit CNMI bet had a final tally of 321.154kgs.

Harold Aranda, who was born on Saipan but is currently living and studying in Guam, came in second place behind Santos.

Santos was also the overall winner with his Sinclair score with Guam’s Shane Concepcion (314.957) and Alex Johnson (300.636), the Airman who ruled the 4th Marianas Trench Throwdown last October, coming in second and third, respectively.

Angel San Nicolas settled for the silver in the men’s 94kg division. He tipped the scales at 92.20kg where he lifted 95kg in the snatch and 125 kg in the clean and jerk for a 220kg total lift to earn a Sinclair score of 253.095.

Tudela finished third in the men’s 85kg class with the best lift of 95kg (snatch) and 102kg (clean and jerk) for a 197kg total, and with an 81.20kg body weight giving him a 239.913 Sinclair score.

Salvi Villanueva, who finished runner-up to Johnson in the Trench Throwdown, was fourth in the men’s 77kg. He had a body weight of 71.40kg with lifts of 87kg (snatch) and 118kg (clean and jerk) for a 202kg total lift and a 265.97 Sinclair score.

Bonnie Cruz was the other GetFit CNMI representative and placed third in the women’s 69kg division.

The 2015 Micronesia Weightlifting Invitational was organized by the Guam Weightlifting Federation.
