Brazilian Jiiu-Jitsu veteran Mike Fowler is set to arrive on Saipan at 1pm tomorrow for a weeklong visit and seminar at the TrenchTech Gym in Garapan.

TrenchTech promoter Cuki Alvarez confirmed the news to the Saipan Tribune via a Facebook message where he sent Fowler’s flight itinerary.

Fowler, a five-time American National Jiu-Jitsu Championships gold medalist in three weight classes, will be arriving to Saipan via Guam and will leave on Dec. 17. He will conduct daily gi seminars in submission grappling.

Alvarez said a $50 donation would be collected for members who are interested in joining the nightly seminar/training with Fowler to help the cost of his trip to the CNMI.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to train with a world class BJJ black belt for one week at a fraction of the price compared to a two-hour seminar that cost [$200] or sometimes more. Take advantage and let it count,” added Alvarez.

Fowler, a many-time medalist in the Asian Open Championship, was originally set to arrive in September but with Saipan still without power, water, and recovering from the lashing of Typhoon Soudelor, he delayed his trip and it is only now that he confirmed his planned visit.

Fowler started as a wrestler in high school and began his Jiu-Jitsu career in 2001. He won the lightweight gold medal in the 2003 Pan American Championships as a blue belt.

In other news, undefeated bantamweight fighter Kwan Ho “Handsome” Kwak of Korea is on Saipan for a few days to also train at the Trench Tech Gym in preparation for his championship fight against Kyle “Money” Aguon in PXC 51 on Jan. 16, 2016.

The Korean Top Team member, who is ranked third among 94 active bantamweights in Korea, is looking for some sparring partners while staying here on Saipan.

Kwan is the reigning Top Fighting Championship bantamweight titleholder after winning the vacant 135-lb belt against Han Bin Park in Top FC 8 by way of technical knockout last Aug. 15.
