‘DPL advisory board active’

Members of the Department of Public Lands board met informally with acting DPL secretary Patricia Rasa yesterday to, among other issues, ask her to follow up on a governor appointee to be “fully constituted,” said William Torres, who represents the Northern Islands on the board.

The other board members are David Evangelista Jr. from Tinian, Henry Hofschneider from Saipan, and Antonio Quitugua from Rota. They are appointed by municipal mayors.

There has been a clamor from House lawmakers for the need for a DPL advisory board, to among other things, push a slow-going homestead program forward.

Torres told Saipan Tribune that board members were meeting with Rep. Joseph Leepan Guerrero, who has been outspoken against DPL Secretary Pete A. Tenorio.

Guerrero told Saipan Tribune separately that he would ask the House Natural Resources Committee chairman to call on the advisory board members to attend a public hearing on DPL set for this Monday.

That hearing is for House Bill 19-82, which would “abolish the Department of Public Lands and establish in its place the Marianas Lands Corp. with a board of trustees.”
