The Marianas Golf Association announced yesterday that the venue for the December Ace of the Month and the first day of the Ace of Aces yearend tournaments on Saturday has been changed.
MGA president J.J. Atalig said that instead of the picturesque east course of the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort the two tournaments will be held at the Marianas Country Club in Marpi.
The availability of Laolao’s Greg Norman-designed golf course is the reason for the change of venue.
Laolao’s operations manager Tony Satur said both the east and west courses are fully booked. “We’re fully booked in the morning and we can’t accommodate [MGA’s] 9am tee time.”
Atalig also reminded all Ace of the Month winners to arrive on time so the pairings could be done properly so both tournaments start on time.
The MGA chief had already warned Ace of the Month winners to be on time for the final monthly event and the first round of their yearend tournament or face disqualification.
“[I want] to inform monthly winners to be on time for proper pairing. If they should be late there is a possibility that they’ll be disqualified from the Ace of Aces championship,” said Atalig in last week’s email.
MGA members will again vie for the final monthly crown, the December Ace. Show time is set at 8am while tee off begins on time after one hour.
The first day of MGA’s Ace of Aces Championship, where the monthly winners will vie for the yearend crown, will also take place simultaneously with the December Ace.
Harry Nakamura (January), Calvin Yamagishi (February), Jess Seman (March), Erlinda Naputi (April), Jenny Hegland (May), Chandler DeLoatch (June), Jay Muna (July), Geri Dela Cruz (August), Louie Tilipao (September), Ned Norita (October), and Jonny Sablan (November) are the 11 monthly winners.
Joey Dela Cruz (vice president), Geri Dela Cruz (secretary), James Benavente (treasurer), DeLoatch (tournament director), and Jerry Ayuyu (handicap chairman) are the other MGA officers.
MGA was established three years ago and now has 30 active members made up of young and seniors, rookies and veterans, and men and women CNMI residents who enjoy playing golf.
