Lorraine Babauta  A pair of net 72s earned Lorraine Babauta the Amigo Golf Club’s Ace of the Month honors for May.

The win only caused little surprise from her peers as Babauta was consistent with her game at the Marianas Country Club late last month. She grossed an 88 in the qualifying round earlier this month and duplicated the effort in the final with a 43 on the front nine and a 45 on the back, which calculated into a second 72 net tally after the handicap adjustment.

Babauta’s combined scores worked out to a 144 for a two-stroke win over John Guerrero.

She topped a field of 13 and secured a $100 cash prize, in addition to joining January Ace Joe Sablan, February’s Doll Yamagashi, March’s Ben Jones Sr., and April’s Ben Jones Jr. for a bid into the season-ending Ace of Aces Tournament. Sablan won last year’s Ace of Aces with Babauta incidentally taking runner-up honors.

Guerrero came into the final as the top qualifier with a net 71, but finished the day with a net 75, built around a 44 on the front side and a 42 after the turn for an 86 gross score and total of 146.

Dr. Larry Hocog, who qualified with a 72, settled for third place. He scratched a 45 on the way out and pulled in with a 48 for a 93 raw count that was shaved down to a 76 for a net total of 148.

Meanwhile, Amigo’s June qualifier took place yesterday at the Kingfisher Golf Links. The final round will also be held at Kingfisher on June 24. The net scores in the two events will be combined to determine the monthly Ace.

There are 23 active AGC members and new players are always welcome.

Men and women compete against each another in a handicap-based net scoring system.
