Garapan now has 24-hour water service

The whole of Garapan now has water supply round the clock.

Acting Commonwealth Utilities Corp. executive director John Riegel said the village has had 24/7 water supply since November.

“We’re very happy about that,” Riegel said. “I think there was a pocket in the main part of Garapan like from the American Memorial Park to Garapan Street and the hotels that did actually have 24-hour water but the rest of it didn’t.”

Next up for 24-hour water service are Airport Road in As Lito, Quartermaster Road to Monsignor Guerrero Road, 1300 block on Capital Hill, and the Tapuchao area.

“The 1300 block on Capital Hill doesn’t [have 24-hour water] but they will soon because we’re finishing up the contract,” Riegel said.

Areas that still don’t have 24-hour water service include Chinatown, Oleai Drive, Marpi, As Matuis, San Roque, Tanapag, Papago, and Laulau.

Riegel said the challenge of getting 24-hour water service to these areas are the leaks.

“The main challenge is that there are a lot of leaks in those areas and we’re constantly fighting that,” Riegel said.
