USCIS responds to alleged delays in the processing of CW renewals
A federal immigration official has responded to the reported delays foreign workers and businesses are seeing in getting their CW renewal permits approved.
Tim Counts, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services public supervisory public affairs officer, said “additional review time” is often expected.
USCIS had told employers on island to renew the CW permits of their employees six months in advance of expiration. However, there have been increasing complaints that the six months are nearly up yet many don’t have their renewals yet.
In an email response to a Saipan Tribune inquiry, Counts said the longer process time could be due to a number of reasons.
If USCIS requests additional information or evidence, the case will take longer to process, he said.
“Cases that involve large numbers of workers may also require additional time to adjudicate, as each case needs to be considered on its own merits,” he noted. “In order to give full and fair consideration to the evidence submitted by an employer, additional review time is often necessary.”
Counts advised that if a case is taking longer than expected, the petitioner may call the USCIS National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283.
