Tsunami Swimming Center Saipan members are up for the various competitions scheduled in the 2015-2016 season despite starting their training sessions late due to Typhoon Soudelor.
The club’s swimmers just resumed their practice at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool last week since the facility was closed last Aug. 2 after sustaining significant damage from the typhoon. With the 50-meter pool unavailable, Tsunami Saipan members had to look for alternative options and were fortunate to get permission to use the facility of Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.
“Laolao kindly provided us their pool for our practice sessions. We practiced there four to five times a week so we are ready for competitions this season,” Tsunami Saipan head coach Hiro Kimura said.
“We really appreciate Laolao general manager Kim Chang Ho for giving us the wonderful environment for our swimming practice,” Kimura added.
The Tsunami Saipan coach also said they will have their last training session at the Laolao facility this Saturday, while regular practices will continue at the Marpi pool as they prepare for on and off-island competitions.
The club will participate in two Northern Mariana Islands Swimming Federation-sanctioned events in January and May and a several other local competitions, while it will also send representatives to tournaments in Japan and Guam next year.
“We already decided to participate in Tokyo Junior Sprint and Guam Championships. Also, I’m planning to have a swim training camp in Japan next summer,” Kimura said.
The Guam competitions are scheduled for April and May, while the Tokyo Junior Sprint is usually held in the first quarter of the year. Early this year, Tsunami Saipan sent returnees Kaito and Ryuto Yanai and Miku Tammy, Sophia Gauran, Juhn Tenorio, Nanaka Watanabe, Anthony Camacho-Deleon Guerrero, Hans Xu, and Ashley Dangol to the Tokyo Sprint. Kensuki Kimura, Kai Staal, and Angel De Jesus also represented the club in the past editions of the annual event.
