Salvation Army gearing up for holidays

The Salvation Army has lined up several events this holiday season, with a special focus on the needs of those still recovering from Typhoon Soudelor.

For the annual Thanksgiving dinner, ministry leader Wayne Gillespie said that families in need have been identified for their outreach efforts.

“Everyone is welcome to walk in to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner but we want to bring food to the families in need,” he said, adding that their team also needs volunteer delivery drivers for families unable to make it to their location.

Gillespie said there are many avenues for volunteering this year including the annual Red Kettle season that will take place everyday except Sundays at select outlets. For anyone interested, the shifts are only two hours long and are a great way to spread holiday cheer, he said.

“Our annual toy drive is still ongoing; books, board games, toys, CDs, basketballs all make good gifts, all of which will be donated to Karidat,” he said.
