Pineda graduates from basic training
U.S. Army Reserve Pvt. Jenny O. Pineda has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Jackson, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, Pineda studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. Pineda is the daughter of Loida M. Olivar and Benjamin B. Pineda of Saipan. She is a 2015 graduate of Marianas High School. (PR)
Small craft advisory out
Moderate to fresh trade winds and combined seas of 8 to 10 feet will produce hazardous conditions for operators of small craft until 6pm today, Monday. A small craft advisory is now in effect until 6pm today. Fresh trade winds and combined seas of 8 to 10 feet are expected to produce hazardous conditions for operators of small craft. Highest seas are expected east of the islands. Winds and seas will slowly subside tonight and Tuesday. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, are advised to avoid boating in these conditions. If travel by boat is necessary exercise caution especially near reef lines and when entering or leaving harbors and inlets. (EOC)
As Gonno green waste site closed down
This is to advise all Saipan residents that the As Gonno green waste site was closed down on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015. The Kagman green waste site shall remain open and will continue to accept vegetation waste, lumber and tin disposal as a result of Typhoon Soudelor. The DPW transfer station in Lower Base will also continue to accept tin and the Marpi landfill will accept vegetation waste and lumber. (PR)
Nepal group to do Tinian cleanup
Nepal Tinian Society Inc. is organizing an beach cleanup on Nov. 28, 2015, a Saturday, starting at 6am and covering the areas from the Office of the Mayor site to the San Jose Church, fiesta grounds, Kammer Beach, Tachogna, and Taga Beach. All organization members will participate in the cleanup. Anyone who wants to join is welcome. (PR)
Military training at FDM, Warning Area 517
ASAN, Guam—The U.S. Air Force will conduct training at the island of Farallon de Medinilla during the following dates and times:
• Nov. 23, from 1pm to 5pm
• Nov. 24-25, from 11am to 3pm
The U.S. Navy will conduct training at Warning Area 517 on Nov. 24, from 2:30pm to 5:30pm
The general public, especially fishermen, commercial pilots and marine tour operators are advised to stay clear of the areas during the dates and times indicated.
The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla will be on a 10-nautical mile radius on all quadrants. W-517 is an irregular polygon comprising 14,000 nautical square miles of airspace that begins south of Guam and extends south-southwest in international waters. This will affect fishing in the vicinity of Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Bank. (PR)
