‘Farewell, Arnold’
We may not be members of the Royals, playing up in a dinky little hotel room. We have not even been offered a contract to play with Bob Hope, a famous American comedian, much less be offered to play in the orchestra of Les Brown. One thing is for certain, though. We are not and never will be “wannabes.” We are, as someone else would put it, “factory workers,” making musical adaptations from other artists’ works. Nah!
We honor a fallen hero of the local music industry of the CNMI, Mr. Arnold Kaipat, who recently passed away Friday, Nov. 6, 2015. With music reaching around the world, even to the far corners of North America, where Bob Hope and Les Brown were born, raised, and laid to rest, he will be remembered as one of those “hard workers” of music adaptation. His song Dinalyn and Sasalaguan Street will always be remembered in the hearts of his fans. Yes, Arnold, we will miss you forever, my friend, brother, and fellow dialysis patient of St. Jude Renal Care Facility. You will be forever remembered in the hearts of us all.
Enfin Serafin,
Alexandro ‘Colonel’ Sablan
