Marianas High School senior Mary Grace Tiglao was installed as the Dolphin battalion commander during a change of command ceremony on Friday.

MHS JROTC instructor Sgt. First Class Anthony Crolla acknowledged to the Dolphin Battalion that the leadership qualities and determination of cadet Tiglao were what allowed her to be the most outstanding cadet amongst the battalion.

Tiglao received her promotion orders, as read by Sgt. First Class Crolla, “…[I have] as MHS ROTC instructor reposed special trust and confidence in the patriotism, valor, fidelity and abilities of Cadet Mary Grace Tiglao [and] in view of these qualities and her demonstrated potential for increased responsibility…” Tiglao was promoted to cadet lieutenant colonel.

Present during the ceremony was Tiglao’s mother who took part in the rank pinning of the new commander.

Tiglao took a moment to express her gratitude to her parents, peers, and instructors who helped her along the way.

“As the new battalion commander, I will strive to continue to maintain the battalion’s accomplishments and expand upon them as well. Although we had a few setbacks, we were able to surmount them,” she said. “I started from the bottom, worked hard, and climbed my way to the top. All of you have the capability and potential to do the same…I challenge you to be the best person you can be, within JROTC and beyond…”
