Karidat warns public not to honor stolen checks
Karidat’s main office located in Chalan Piao at the V.S. Sablan building has been burglarized three times since August 2015. The latest incident was between Nov. 7-8, 2015.
In the past two incidents the burglar(s) managed to get away with cash after prying open a locked desk. However, in this new incident, they stole a locked filing cabinet that contained important documents, vendor checks ready for mailing, as well as unused blank checks. On this note, Karidat is advising the general public and businesses to not honor Karidat Bank of Guam checks, beginning check number 17188 and any check thereafter under account number 0603-005527 and Karidat First Hawaiian Bank checks, beginning check number 3365 and any check thereafter under account number 12-001827. Karidat is not responsible for payment of these stolen checks. These accounts were closed as of Nov. 8, 2015.
Karidat is also asking the community for help to identify and locate those who broke into its office.
“We encourage anyone with any information to please call Crime Stoppers. The thieves are not just stealing from Karidat but from the whole community,” the agency said in a statement. (Karidat)
