Appeal for financial assistance and support
On Aug. 2, 2015, Typhoon Soudelor made landfall on Saipan, causing extensive damage. The typhoon reached its peak intensity with winds of 215 km/h (130 mph) on Aug. 3 and was the most intense typhoon to strike Saipan in nearly 30 years. It has damaged more than 1,200 homes and caused massive destruction and completely ravaged community centers.
The CNMI Hindu Community Center, which also houses the only Radha-Krishna temple on Saipan, suffered intensive damage, with the complete loss of the roof and the building flooded. Typhoon Goni followed on Aug. 23, bringing heavy rain and caused further hardship to the people of Saipan by further hampering the relief efforts and the reconstruction of buildings. A contractor has estimated the repair of the CNMI Hindu Community Center to cost $127,556.
Since the CNMI Hindu Community Center was the only available place for community activities, finding solace and performing worship, the community would like to appeal for financial assistance and support from both residential as well as business community of Saipan and beyond to rebuild the community center in this difficult time.
