Acting governor Ralph DLG Torres signed yesterday a proclamation declaring Nov. 8 to Nov. 15 as “Veterans Awareness Week.” Veterans Day is next Wednesday on Nov. 11.

The proclamations pays tribute to all veterans of the United States Armed Forces, and the service and sacrifice of all those who have bravely worn the uniform of the Armed Forces.

The proclamation calls all CNMI citizens to recognize the bravery and sacrifice of veterans through ceremony and prayer, and to encourage everyone to display their flags and support and participate in patriotic activities next week.

“Our country is forever indebted to our veterans for their courage and exemplary service,” Torres states in the proclamation. “We also remember and honor those who laid down their lives in freedom’s defense. These brave men and women made the ultimate sacrifice for our benefit. On Veterans Day, we remember these heroes for their valor, their loyalty, and their dedication. Their selfless sacrifice continue to inspire us today as we work to advance peace and extend freedom around the world.”

“We salute their services, honor their sacrifices, and honor them for supporting this nation in every hour of need. And we acknowledge that freedom’s cost continues long after the guns fall silent. Many of our veterans bear the disabilities and scars of military service. The families of those who never returned from their service live always with a profound sense of loss. It is our duty to remember what veterans have done and to uphold our commitments to them and their families.”
