The Destroyers visited the Crazy 8 last Tuesday night and scored a 9-4 win to jump on top of the standings in the 21st season of the SBA-organized leagues.
Jokers Bar is supporting four teams—Destroyers, Hustlers, StraightBlackBall, and Voyagers—while Jonny’s has two, the Titans and Crazy 8.
The triumvirate of Destroyers team captain Nolan Cultura, Rico Montano, and Cesar Sangalang swept the first two sets of Singles play on their way to victory.
Montano even went 4-1 in the five matches he played against the Crazy 8. He was undefeated in Singles play and went 1-1 in Partners 8-Ball—his loss was when he and Sangalang lost to Rey Pinangay and Zaldy Quebral.
Montano did not lose after that with his second team up with Sangalang resulting in a win over Quebral and Victor Formales.
Standings in the six-team field are currently close with only one win separating the squads. Changes in the standings would take place as the season goes on in the 20-week league that ends on March 15, 2016.
The Hustlers completed an 8-4 decision over sister team Voyagers, while the StraightBlackBall edged the Titans, 7-6. Docomo and IT&E are also supporting the Hustlers and Voyagers, respectively.
Matches in next Tuesday, Nov. 10, will be against the StraightBlackBall and the Destroyers with the Crazy 8 hoping to bounce back against the Hustlers. The Titans clash with the Voyagers in the other scheduled contest.
Action in the Budweiser Open 8-Ball Thursday League starts tonight with the Wild Bill’s Rack ‘N Roll visiting Jonny’s Team SCS, while the Jokers Homeboyz take on the WildBoyz, and the Wild Bill’s Wild Wild West hosting the National Alamo/Jokers.
