Teacher allegedly assaults another with grocery basket
The Office of the Attorney General has filed three charges against a teacher who allegedly hit another teacher in the face with a grocery basket last Oct. 2 on Saipan.
Ronald L. Wright, 47, was charged with assault and battery and disturbing the peace.
At an arraignment on Monday, Wright, through attorney Shelli Neal, pleaded not guilty.
Superior Court Presiding Judge Robert C. Naraja set a status conference for Dec. 1, 2015, at 9am.
Assistant attorney general Heather Barcinas represented the government.
According to court documents, Wright was released from the custody of the Department of Corrections after posting a $5,250 bail last Oct. 2. He was ordered to report to court for his arraignment last Oct. 5.
At the Oct. 5 hearing, Wright appeared in court without a counsel. Assistant attorney general Shannon Foley appeared for the government.
Naraja then continued the arraignment for Monday, Nov. 2. The government was ordered to file the information no later than Oct. 26. Foley filed the information last Oct. 23.
Foley stated in the information that Wright hit Keith Tessen in the face with a grocery basket last Oct. 2, lacerating Tessen’s nose.
Foley said Wright also chest-bumped Tessen repeatedly in an aggressive manner. No other details were indicated in court papers.
Saipan Tribune learned that the incident happened at a store in Garapan.
