Bridge Capital donates $35,000 in construction materials

As part of its commitment to assisting recovery efforts following Typhoon Soudelor, Bridge Capital LLC donated $35,000 worth of housing construction materials to the CNMI long-term recovery group, C.A.R.E.

Donated materials included 800 roof sheets, 700 pieces of U.S. pressure-treated lumber, 1,000 hurricane straps, 15,000 roof screws, 2,500 lbs of nails, and 50 gallons of roof cement.

In a brief ceremony Friday afternoon at the Northern Marianas Technical Institute, Bridge Capital vice president and chief operating officer Jody Jordahl presented the materials to C.A.R.E., with acting governor Ralph Torres on hand. 

Torres said the much-need construction materials will go a long way as C.A.R.E. works closely with the disaster case management program in order to identify residents with the greatest needs for rebuilding assistance.  

“The continued collaboration between non-profit organizations, government agencies, and local businesses has been the main reason why recovery efforts have been going as smoothly as they have,” Torres said. “I want to thank CARE’s Jenny Hegland and the various committees within CARE for really coordinating with our recovery efforts as we get our community back to normalcy,”

Jordahl said Bridge Capital remains committed to assisting C.A.R.E. in whatever it needs in order to get the resources and services to the people who need it the most. 

“The work that C.A.R.E. has been doing to provide help to those who have lost or damaged homes has been great, and we really want to build on that. We look forward to collaborating with them now and in the future as recovery efforts continue around island,” he added.

One of the representatives receiving the donation on behalf of C.A.R.E., Jenny Hegland, thanked Bridge Capital for their generous donation, as well as Northern Marianas Technical Institute for storing the materials, and looks forward to using the growing resources of C.A.R.E. to improve the lives of Saipan residents affected by typhoon Soudelor and Tropical Storm Champi. 

“Our volunteers are getting out there identifying unmet needs and our network partners are delivering long-term support to those most impacted by the disaster,” said Hegland. “Collaborating resources between our network partners, government agencies and officials, and especially our business leaders like Bridge Capital, will help us build a more resilient community.
