Storm debris volunteer cleanup this Saturday
Commonwealth Advocates for Recovery Efforts will continue with its volunteer storm debris sorting and staging project this Saturday, Oct. 31. This weekend the project will focus on Garapan, with volunteer activities from 8:30am to 1pm.
Volunteers are needed to assist in sorting storm debris from Typhoon Soudelor in preparation for its removal. Once debris are sorted by the volunteers, debris will be removed and properly disposed of by CARE in partnership with the Department of Public Works and the Saipan Mayor’s Office.
“Debris removal is an important initial step in rebuilding homes devastated by the storm’s impact,” said CARE representative Jenny Hegland. “We are asking for volunteers to join us this Saturday to provide a helping hand for our neighbors in need and to help us build a more resilient community.”
Interested volunteers are asked to meet at the Garapan Local Market at 8:30am. There they will be assigned to a team leader who will direct their clean-up efforts.
CARE is partnering with United 4 Saipan and AmeriCorps for this cleanup event. Volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants and closed-toe walking shoes. Water will be provided. For more information, go to www.cnmicare.org. (PR)
