Based on information received from the National Weather Service in Guam and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center, a large swell from distant Typhoon Champi will generate hazardous surf for the Marianas through Monday evening.

A high surf advisory remains in effect until 6pm today, Monday. Surf along west facing reefs has fallen below advisory levels as a large swell from distant Typhoon Champi arrives from a more northerly direction.

Hazardous surf of 7 to 9 feet will persist along north facing reefs through Monday morning before falling below hazardous levels Monday afternoon.

The general public and mariners are being advised to avoid venturing into the water along exposed reefs and beaches, especially those facing north as rip currents will be life threatening. (HSEM)
