Saipan Little League board appeals to members

The Saipan Little League Board Inc.’s outgoing officers are again appealing to their members to attend another meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 5pm at the pavilion beside the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Last Saturday was supposed to be the SLLBI’s election for its new set of board members, who will then vote among themselves the new officers of the 2016 Saipan Little League season.

SLLBI president Ben Jones again called off last Saturday’s election as less than 20 members attended the meeting that started at 10am. This was the third time the election was postponed after the Oct. 10 meeting was reset due to lack of voting members, while the Oct. 16 event was rescheduled due to Tropical Storm Champi.

“I’m calling on all the managers, coaches, and assistant coaches who handled teams last season to attend the meeting on Wednesday. I’m also inviting the parents and other volunteers as well, and the managers, coaches, and assistant coaches that were selected to the CNMI All-Star teams, so we could get things started,” Jones said.

He even suggested that each member should tag along one or two others for the next meeting or car pool together to attend Wednesday’s meeting. If only a few members would attend the Wednesday meeting, the next schedule is set after All Souls Day since everyone would be busy cleaning the graves of dead relatives or remembering their dearly departed, Jones added.

SLLBI secretary Piding Tenorio, who is also the player’s agent of the outgoing board, said a member must be present to be elected to the board.

“You must be present in order for you to get nominated and be elected as a member of the board. The board will then vote or choose among themselves who would fill the seven positions,” added Tenorio.

The positions up for grabs are president, vice president secretary, treasurer, chief statistician, player’s agent, and safety officer. The elected president will then preside on all board meetings in order to plan the 2016 Saipan Little League season.

For more information, call incumbent SLLBI vice president Annie Flores at 285-1219 or Tenorio at 285-1024.
