SIS 1 is composed of Adele Hudkins, Jennifer Tan, Sakura Imaya, Gillian VIllagomez, Shirley Quian, Chloe Kosack, Minami Sakai, Min Jin Jang, Juliana Hanson, and Angie Kim. Mili Saiki is the coach. The Lady Geckos have another squad in the girls high school division, while Mt. Carmel School has also entered two squads, and Grace Christian Academy is represented by one.

In the boys high school division, the As Lito-based school was also victorious in its first game with SIS 1 downing Agape, too in two sets. Brothers Colin and Quintin Ramsey anchor SIS 1’s roster and are joined by Daniel Lim, Luther Lizama, Jason Kim, Chan Woo Jeong, and Hyun Jun Jeon.

SIS has two other squads in the boys high school category and will be battling the division crown against Mt. Carmel, Agape, and GCA.

In the co-ed middle school division, there are nine teams with SIS having three, Saipan Community School entering two, and Whispering Palms, Agape, Seventh Day Adventist, and GCA fielding one apiece.

SDA played against the Geckos yesterday in the middle school and won in two sets.

Saiki, who coordinates the league, said they allow many teams from one school to compete this season as the Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization has yet to begin its tournament. Saiki’s SIS Geckos have over 70 players spread into eight squads.

The Geckos are hoping to regain the middle school championship they lost to Mt. Carmel last season. The Knights defeated SIS in last year’s finale, 26-24, 25-13, for their first middle school crown since joining the league in 2007.

Games in this year’s COPSSA volleyball league have started last week, but some matches were suspended due to rain. Elimination round games will run until next month, while the playoffs is tentatively set first week of December. Matches are played every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, while make-up games are also scheduled every Friday.
