Chinese-Korean scuba diving instructor missing
Truck abandoned in Garapan
A Chinese-Korean woman was reported missing and her vehicle was found abandoned near McDonald’s in Garapan yesterday afternoon.
A concerned citizen told Saipan Tribune last night that his friend, Mei Hua Zhao, about 25 to 30 years old, stopped answering her cell phone after 10pm on Monday.
The friend, who asked not to be identified, disclosed that Zhao, a scuba diving instructor, was supposed to pick up some customers yesterday morning but she did not show up.
He said another friend found Zhao’s white Toyota Tacoma parked near McDonald’s in Garapan yesterday afternoon. He said he immediately called the police at 3:30pm.
The pickup truck was locked, he said. Police took the vehicle for investigation.
“We are worried about her,” he said, adding that he searched many places on the island yesterday but could not find her.
The concerned citizen posted Zhao’s photo on the Saipan Buy/Sell/Swap Facebook account, hoping to get information from the public.
He said Zhao’s husband was already notified and that he came to Saipan from Tinian yesterday.
The couple stays in Gualo Rai.
Department of Public Safety Commissioner Jaime Deleon Guerrero confirmed last night that there is indeed a missing woman and that they are still investigating the case.
Deleon Guerrero also confirmed that the woman’s vehicle had been recovered.
He said more details will be released today.
