A large swell from distant Typhoon Champi will continue to generate hazardous surf in the Marianas in the next few days, based on information received from the National Weather Service in Guam and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operation Center.

A high surf advisory remains in effect until 6am Friday.

Surf will be hazardous at 9 to 11 feet on west and north facing reefs, then diminish slightly to between 8 and 10 feet today, Wednesday. Surf along west and north facing reefs will remain hazardous through at least Friday.

A small craft advisory for hazardous seas remains in effect until 6pm today.

Combined seas of 8 to 11 feet will subside to between 7 and 10 feet by today, Wednesday. Seas are expected to subside to below advisory levels this evening.

The public is being advised to avoid boating in these conditions. If travel by boat is necessary, exercise caution especially those operating smaller vessels. Avoid navigating in these conditions, especially those facing north, south and west as rip currents will be life threatening. (HSEM)
