Camacho honors hard work of judicial assistant Magofna
Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho presented yesterday a certificate of completion to deputy clerk and judicial assistant Delia Salas Magofna for her involvement in 25 jury trials and 32 bench trials in the CNMI in less than three years.
“Delia is an essential part of the court and chamber, and I value her hard work and dedication. Her professionalism and positive attitude makes working with her a wonderful experience,” Camacho said.
Assigned to Camacho’s courtroom, Magofna’s duties include maintaining the record, logging objections, keeping track of exhibits, ensuring the smooth functioning of the courtroom, coordinating with other court personnel to serve jury summons, roll call during jury selection, announcing the verdict, processing jury documents after the trial, and preserving the file for any appeals.
Magofna has a “deep confidence and grace under pressure,” said Camacho, whose courtroom averages about one jury trial every six weeks and even more bench trials.
“Every trial has its unique challenges and Delia is able to adjust and anticipate overcoming them,” the judge noted.
Magofna said she enjoys working with everybody at the Superior and Supreme courts.
“I am thankful to Judge Camacho for having me under his wings,” Magofna said.
Magofna had been involved in some sensational trials like the Joseph A. Crisostomo murder trial, robbery, burglary, drug trafficking, sex crimes as well as civil cases involving multi-million dollars.
These numerous trials along with evidentiary hearings and other court proceedings were conducted by Camacho on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.
Magofna worked for 15 years at the Calvo & Clark law firm. When the law firm closed their Saipan branch, she joined the CNMI Judiciary.
