The contest was part of Rota’s annual fiesta of San Francisco de Borja, the island’s patron saint.
The school is happy to announce that 8th grade student Angelo S. Lucero won first place in the Bisita Luta Essay Contest under the 6th to 8th Grade Category.
In the Bisita Luta Poster Contest, 4th grade student Éclair M. Ladao won first place while classmate Brylle P. Reyel won third place.
“I would like to thank all of the students that participated and congratulations to our winners. I would also like to thank the sponsors of the event and all of the teachers’ continued support in helping to educate about the Bisita Luta theme,” said administrator/principal Carmen H. Atalig.
“To win is just incredible. We participated to show our support, especially to our patron saint, San Francisco de Borja, and also for our class grade. Winning was the last thing in our minds,” said Lucero.
“I feel proud of myself because drawing something to promote Rota and the island’s patron saint, San Francisco de Borja, was worth it,” said Ladao.
“I am thrilled that I won but most of all it’s about showing our support to our Rota patron saint, San Francisco de Borja,” said Reyel.
“Through their essays and artwork, these students captured the rich history and vital importance of the island’s patron saint, San Francisco de Borja, and the theme of Bisita Luta,” board chair Edward Maratita, Jr. said. “It’s great to see students having fun while celebrating Luta’s annual fiesta.”
Students from public and private schools on Rota participated in both contests. Participants used three questions as a guide in coming up with their entries: “What makes Rota a unique island?” “Why do people come to Rota?” and “Why should people come to Rota?”
The awards presentation was held Oct. 10, 2015, at the Chamorro Village to honor the winning students.
The administration, faculty and staff, students, and board of directors would like to express their appreciation to Rota Mayor Efraim Atalig and his staff. (ESFDB)
