Laolao Bay Golf & Resort donates $10K to CNMI CARE
Laolao Bay Golf & Resort is the latest to donate to the long-term recovery group CNMI Commonwealth Advocates for Recovery Efforts.
A $10,000 check was presented to CNMI CARE by Laolao Bay executives led by president Chang Ho Kim yesterday.
“Laolao Bay has always been helping the community in any way it can, especially now after Typhoon Soudelor. We want to give back to the community that has also supported us through the years,” Kim said.

The golf resort was able to raise the money through their “Play Golf for Typhoon Victims,” pledging to donate $5 each from the green fees collected in September toward helping victims of Typhoon Soudelor. A green fee is what a golf course charges golfers to play.
Laolao Bay Golf & Resort was able to raise $10,000 from the green fees as well as donation jar collections through the support of its guests and organizations such as the Korean Golf Association.
“It’s particularly…heartfelt for me because I’m part of the golfing community,” CNMI CARE’s Jenny Hegland said. “That’s a very generous donation from a company that had a lot of damage. They did massive cleanup efforts and their staff did great efforts to clean it up.”
Aside from the donation, Laolao Bay Golf & Resort has also been reaching out to the community by providing potable and non-potable water, and even providing chainsaw services to the public. It also established a temporary shelter for some of its staff.
The resort’s management also released a schedule for free drinking water. Members of the public can line up at the driving range with their containers. The schedule is from Monday to Friday, from 6:30am to 7:30am and 3:30pm to 6:30pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 4pm.
Laolao Bay’s Tony Satur said a fundraising golf tournament is in the works where proceeds will also go to victims of Typhoon Soudelor.
“I’ve been working with Tony and Mr. Kim since I got to the island. They are very committed to the community and the whole island,” Hegland said.
