No classes today for PSS schools
Classes in public schools are suspended today, Education Commissioner Dr. Rita Sablan announced last night.
In a social media update, the CNMI Joint Information Center posted the announcement from Sablan. It said the suspension is due to the bad weather brought by the tropical disturbance that is now being monitored east of the CNMI.
“Students do not need to report to class to ensure their safety due to heavy rain, thunderstorm, and flooding associated with this tropical disturbance,” the statement said.
However, all PSS staff on Saipan—except for 190-day employees—are required to report for work.
A PSS statement last night said Professional Development on Tinian and Rota are expected as scheduled.
“The classes are suspended as a precaution due to the forming weather system. Also, there are precautionary measures that are in place for all of our public elementary, middle and high schools that cover proper protection and safeguarding of our school facilities,” Sablan said in the statement.
“We are just slowly recovering from the devastation of Typhoon Soudelor and to mitigate further damage to our public school facilities and ensure continued safety and security of our students and staff, we are initiating this temporary suspension of school instruction for Oct. 13, 2015,” she added.
The education chief also encouraged public school students, parents, guardians, and the community to constantly monitor updates coming from the school district, by visiting our PSS website (www.cnmipss.org) and local media partners.
