The project—hosted by the Saipan Fil-Am Lions Club, Saipan Marianas Lions Club, and the new Saipan Marianas Alpha Leos—is in line with the Lions Club International’s Worldwide Week of Service in Sight, a special international service event to help eliminate preventable blindness and improve eyesight.

Young and old in need of reading glasses of different graduations lined up as early as 7am to avail of the services.

“Our number one purpose is to serve,” region chair lion Ladyvir Canape said, adding that they are hoping to do the event every year.

“The turnout for the distribution of reading glasses was great. We decided to do it at Marianas Business Plaza since they have the Saturday market. We we’re able to service different nationalities on that day,” zone chair Lion Mario Mayuga said.

The Lions Club said they are thankful to Eric Van Der Maas of Marianas Business Plaza and Happy Market As Lito.

According to Canape, next in their project pipeline is a medical mission next year.

“The Lions Clubs’ upcoming event is the Health Fair or Medical Mission this January 2016 with complete medical services like eye check, blood pressure check, sugar test, cholesterol test, glasses distribution, and diabetic awareness program, among others,” Canape said.
