NMIFA kicks off youth fall league tomorrow
Local football action resumes tomorrow with the opening of the 2015 NMIFA Youth Fall League at the various pitches on the island.
First up are the three matches in the boys U15 division. Paire Football Club and MP United FC will kick off the hostilities in the age group with their 8am game at the Oleai Sports Complex Field. Also set at the Oleai pitch at 10am is the encounter between Tan Holdings FC-1 and Kanoa FC, while the Tan Holdings FC-2 will collide against Shirley’s FC at the same time over at the Hopwood Junior High School Field. Matansa FC completes the division and drew a bye in the opening week.
Next to play at the Hopwood pitch are the four teams entered in the co-ed U12 A division (competitive). Paire will also be paired against MP United in the 1pm game at Pitch 1, while Tan Holdings takes on Kanoa at Pitch 2.
After the co-ed U12 A teams, it will be the turn of the girls U15 squads to showcase their wares in the season-opening week. Six teams will battle for the fall season championship and all of them will play in the weekend games. MP United and Paire will meet at 2:30pm at Pitch 1, while over at Pitch 2 at the same time, Matansa will challenge Tan Holdings. In the last game at 4pm, Shirley’s FC will square off against Kanoa FC at Pitch 1.
Back at the Oleai pitch, the boys U18 division will have two games per playing day. Paire and Tan Holdings will duel in the opener at 2:30pm, while Matansa faces MP United in the second match at 4:15pm.
All the divisions in the competitive league will have a shortened season as the event had a late start due to Typhoon Soudelor. The boys U18 and co-ed U12 A divisions will have a double-round robin format to determine the season champions, while the boys and girls U15 age groups will implement a single-round robin play.
Meanwhile, the non-competitive age groups will also start the fall season this Saturday.
In the co-ed U8 division, seven teams are playing with Paire 1 meeting MP United 1 at 3:30pm at Dandan pitch, MP United 1 colliding against Shirley’s at Navy Hill, and Kanoa and Tan Holdings seeing action at the William S. Reyes Elementary School Field. Matansa got a bye in Week 1.
In the co-ed U10, the opening week games are as follows: Paire vs MP United 1 at Dandan; MP United 2 vs Shirley’s at Navy Hill; and Kanoa vs Tan Holdings at WSR. All matches will be played at 2:30pm.
