The Saipan Young Professionals Committee volunteered for the Pacific Century Fellows 5K Run on Saturday, Oct. 3. They teamed up with student volunteers from Mount Carmel School at the run’s hydration station, working together to assemble, organize, and distribute water and fruits to the participants before and after the run.

“We thought that this would be a wonderful volunteer opportunity and we’re grateful for the students from Mount Carmel School who were able to assist us in keeping the runners hydrated,” said SYP chair Mable Ayuyu.

She said the event brought a positive collaboration of various organizations to support a worthy cause. “Our SYP Committee supports leadership development programs and other cohorts of young professionals on island including the Pacific Century Fellows.”

A few SYP members are also members of the Pacific Century Fellows-Marianas Chapter. SYP co-chair Bobby Cruz, SYP member Velma Palacios, and Chris Concepcion are graduates of the PCF 2014 Class. Ayuyu and SYP member Rose Aldan join this year’s 2015 Class.

“We’ve experienced, first hand, the value that the PCF program provides. Participating in this event and inviting high school students to join us helps us highlight the importance of including our youth in community-service events. This also gives us the opportunity to introduce students to a program that they may be interested in being a part of in the future,” said Ayuyu.

SYP members shared that the volunteer effort was a fun way to start their weekend.

The Saipan Young Professionals Committee would like to thank its members for volunteering at the event. “We’d also like to send a thank you to our Saipan Chamber of Commerce members and our businesses partners for donating to the event,” said Ayuyu.

The committee also extends their appreciation to MCS Stuco president Thomas Manglona II, MCS president Galvin Deleon Guerrero, and the MCS Knights including Andrea Bang, Cosmos Kim, SoHyun Kwon and Ho Bin Lee for teaming up with SYP.

The committee looks forward to collaborating with more students in their future volunteer events.
