More than 300 individuals joined the first-ever Pacific Century Fellows-Marianas Chapter Run last Saturday. Dubbed “PCF 5K: Back on our Feet,” it was intended to raise funds to help Project Ayudu.

Project Ayudu was launched by Tan Holdings and Tan Siu Lin Foundation to sell 10,000 shirts to raise $150,000 that will be used to rebuild damaged or destroyed homes on Saipan due to Typhoon Soudelor.

“All the money is going back to the community and it’s amazing to see a lot of community members come here to support our first 5K and we hope to continue this maybe every year and contribute to the community,” said PCF Class of 2014 member Jackie Che.

With only a few weeks to make it happen, PCF said they are happy they were still able to meet their goal.

“We actually set a modest target of 300 and we exceeded it so we’re happy for that,” PCF class of 2014 Eulalia Villagomez said.

Members of the Guma’ Simiyan Mañaina-ta performed a traditional blessing prior to the run.

After everyone finished the course from the Garapan Fishing Base to Quartermaster Road, raffle prizes were given away, including a trip to Japan from Delta Air Lines and gift certificates from McDonald’s, Cutz and Colours, Pacific Islands Club Saipan, Kanoa Resort’s Isla Café and Nami Bar, and Let’s Go Tours. Some appliances as well as a mountain bike were also given away.

PCF-Marianas Chapter chair Jerry Tan thanked everyone who came to the run.

“You are part of the 10,000 this morning. The very shirt that all of you are wearing right now. We’d like to say thank you for being part of this effort,” Tan said.

Tan also shared that since Project Ayudu was launched about a month ago, 7,500 of the 10,000 shirts have already been sold, meaning over $110,000 was already raised for rebuilding and long-term recovery.

“But the job is not done yet. We still have about 2,500 more to go,” Tan added.

Aside from Saipan, shirts are also being sold in Guam.

“This is all going to help. Every dollar that we raise, the entire $150,000 will be going to long-term recovery effort for the typhoon victims,” Tan said.
