The American Red Cross NMI Chapter continues to receive a stream of donations from private companies that enable it to deliver humanitarian services to Saipan in the aftermath of Typhoon Soudelor.

E-Land provided 1,000 blankets, 1,000 water containers, and 1,000 mosquito nets. Luen Fung Enterprises provided a 40-foot container of drinking water, containing about 1,188 cases. Pretty Corp. donated food, clothing, shoes, and baby supplies. Transpac (Coca-Cola/Foremost) provided 200 cases of drinking water. Avis Rent-a-Car donated $500 cash. Godfather’s Bar donated $650 cash, representing the proceeds from a fundraiser the bar hosted.

“We are extremely grateful to everyone in our community and around the world that has provided critical relief supplies and financial support to empower our humanitarian services,” said NMI Chapter executive director John Hirsh. “Without these resources, the thousands of hours of work by hundreds of volunteers would not have been possible. The Red Cross and our community owe a debt of gratitude to all those volunteers who delivered all these selfless acts of kindness to help those in need.”

In response to Typhoon Soudelor Red Cross has already provided assistance to more than 5,000 households (12,000 family members). They provided 20,000 meals to those most affected and staying in shelters. In addition the Red Cross provided nursing and mental health support to hundreds of families needing extra help.

They worked with other non-profit and faith based organizations to reach families in remote and isolated areas. They collaborated closely with NMI Homeland Security/Emergency management, FEMA and other partners to assist families as they begin their long road to recovery. The NMI Red Cross team continues to work with the Long Term Recovery Committee (Saipan CARES) to assist with casework management and developing strategies to meet unmet needs.

The Red Cross has spent over $2.2 million on direct aid to families. The Red Cross continues to need your support as a volunteer and donor. For more information on how to donate or volunteer, e-mail us at nmichapter@redcross.org. (ARC)
