Dela Cruz started at the back nine and fired a 45 before closing out with a 46 for a 91 gross score. She had a 22 handicap that gave her 69 net.
She beat James Benavente by one stroke as the MGA treasurer shot rounds of 39 and 47 for an 86 gross and a 70 net with his 16 handicap.
The MGA secretary, who overcame a cloudy and at times rainy afternoon, now moved closer of earning a spot in the group’s Ace of Aces tournament at the end of the year.
Ace of the Month winners need to meet a required number of games in the monthly teeoff to qualify for the yearend tournament.
She now joins the list of Ace of the Month winners Harry Nakamura (January), Calvin Yamagishi (February), Jess Seman (March), Martin Naputi (April), Jenny Hegland, (May), Chandler DeLoatch, (June), Jay Muna (July).
MGA president J.J. Atalig clinched three closest to the pin awards at holes No. 3, 12, and 14 while Ron Benavente topped No. 7.
The MGA August Ace was a month behind and it was originally scheduled in early August but Typhoon Soudelor pounded Saipan where the four golf courses on the island sustained damage forcing them to close while they repair and clean up the debris.
The MGA September Ace is set on Oct. 3, Saturday, at Laolao Bay Golf & Resort’s west course. Showtime is at 9am while tee off is at 10am.
The MGA, which is still accepting new members, is again encouraging their affiliates and Ace of the Month winners to join Saturday’s event.
Joey Dela Cruz (vice president), Chandler DeLoatch (tournament director), and Jerry Ayuyu (handicap chairman) join Atalig, Geri Dela Cruz, and James Benavente as officers of MGA.
MGA was established three years ago and now has 30 active members made up of young and senior, rookies and veterans, and men and women CNMI residents who enjoy playing golf.
The group, recently, also made a donation of $500 to join other local organizations in a fundraising drive for school supplies by public elementary school students.
