An argument allegedly led a 44-year-old man to beat up his wife and repeatedly hit her with a broomstick at their residence in Kagman on Friday afternoon.

Theofilus O. Minor was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.

At a hearing on Monday, Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $6,250 cash bail on Minor and set the preliminary hearing for Sept. 22 at 9am.

Assistant public defender Cindy Nebit was appointed as counsel for Minor. Assistant attorney general Emily Cohen appeared for the government.

Police detective Dee Liza S. Udui stated in her report that two police officers responded on Friday at 2:48pm to a reported domestic violence incident in Kagman.

When the officers met the victim, she was crying, her face was red and she complained that her head hurt.

The alleged victim told police that prior to the beating, Minor asked her for $10 but she refused because she needed the money for laundry. Minor got upset and an argument ensued, during which the wife threw a bowl of food at the bedroom door as Minor was leaving. Minor went back into the bedroom and allegedly punched and slapped her in the face several times. He also allegedly pulled her hair then dragged and kicked her. He also grabbed a broomstick and hit her with it in the head repeatedly.

When Minor walked to the kitchen, the wife pulled her daughter with her and they both ran to a neighbor’s house where she used a phone to call the police.

Police arrested Minor later that afternoon.
