Lydia Flores Camacho-Romisher, 67, passed away on Wednesday last week, Sept. 9, 2015.
Camacho-Romisher led a very full and exciting life as a wife, mother, grandmother, career professional and civic leader. Aside from taking care of her family, her next love was working with the poor, underprivileged, the abused and neglected children and women and most specifically the homeless.
She never stopped learning even after she became legally blind in 1991, at the peak of her career, then going on to law school in 1996-1999, graduating with honors. She was admitted into the New Mexico State Bar in 2000 and pursued pro-bono work as an attorney. She was a volunteer- practicing attorney for the Law Clinic, UNM School of Law under the direct guidance and mentoring of professor and Law Clinic director Antoinette Sedillo-Lopez.
Born on June 12, 1948, Camacho-Romisher is survived by her husband, John Michael Romisher; by three daughters, sons-in-law and granddaughters: Stephanie Beth, John and granddaughter Kellie Lynn Webb; Michelle Lynn and Jeffrey Mann; Lindsey Anne, Jesse, granddaughter Jeslyn Eileen and step-granddaughter Sophia Sollien; and by her brother-in law, Roy Andrew Romisher.
\She is also survived by her siblings, in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews. Siblings and spouses include Efrain and Martha Camacho; George Camacho; Ramona and Daniel Halstead, Ginny and Randy Blackmun; Margarita and Francisco Castro; Maria and Marvin Camacho-Cook; William and Marie Camacho; and Vincent and Rose Camacho.
Camacho-Romisher was preceded in death by her father and mother, Vicente Sablan Camacho and Estefania Flores Camacho and her oldest sister, Anunciacion. Lydia is the second oldest child in the family.
Memorial services will be held at St. Jude Thaddeus Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico, today, Sept. 16, 2015. A rosary will be recited at 11am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30am.
