Tropical Depression 20W forms close to Alamagan
Tropical Depression 20W is newly formed east of Alamagan. At 7am yesterday, the center of Tropical Depression 20W was located by satellite about 405 miles east-southeast of Agrihan, about 385 miles east of Alamagan, about 425 miles east-northeast of Saipan, and about 535 miles east-northeast of Guam.
Based on the latest information from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, and compiled at the CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Tropical Depression 20W is moving northwest at 12 mph. It is expected to move northwest at 12 mph. Tropical Depression 20W is expected to gradually turn toward the west-northwest with a slight decrease in forward speed during the next 24 hours.
Maximum sustained winds are now 30 mph. Tropical Depression 20W is expected to intensify through the next 48 hours and could become a tropical storm by today, Wednesday.
There are no watches or warnings in effect for the CNMI at this time although residents and visitors are advised to stay informed and monitor the progress of Tropical Depression 20W.
