The multi-agency search effort to find Jian Zhu Deng were expanded Thursday but there remained no trace of the 51-year-old Chinese businessman.

As of 4:30pm Thursday, a rescue boat was still scouring the ocean across Banzai Cliff, where Deng’s Nissan Pathfinder was found by family members on Tuesday morning.

A security guard at Banzai Cliff told Saipan Tribune that a lot of officers on boats and jet skis searched near the cliff line, while a helicopter flew over the area in the morning and in the afternoon.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Guam and the Department of Public Safety, they are utilizing all available assets to search for Deng.

“So far, search efforts have included the waters inshore and out to 60 nautical miles off the northwest and northeast coast of Saipan,” said Lt. William White, search and rescue mission coordinator for Coast Guard Sector Guam.

Deng, manager of the family-owned Deng Shi Auto Shop in Garapan, reportedly went spear fishing at Banzai Cliff on Monday at 6pm, but never returned home.
