The Office of the Governor submitted last week a technical assistance program grant application to aid disaster recovery after Typhoon Soudelor, according to press secretary Ivan Blanco Tuesday.

Blanco said the grant application submitted to the Office of Insular Affairs is for $500,000.

He said the grants office program manager sent the application last week Friday.

In other government-led recovery initiatives, local and federal agencies, as well as nonprofit groups, were set to meet on Capital Hill on Wednesday as part of state housing recovery task force. The major bill on the agenda was to address the issue of rebuilding after the destructive Typhoon Soudelor.

The group, called the “State Led Disaster Housing Task Force,” aims to address the destruction left by Typhoon Soudelor, which destroyed a reported 2,600 homes on island when it hit on Aug. 2 and 3.

This will be their third meeting since the group of government and local stakeholders formed.

Zenie Mafnas from the Northern Marianas Housing Corp. leads the group from the “state” or government side, along with other officials. Representatives of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which has been providing rental assistance to typhoon victims, are also part of the group.
