Labor Day softball tourney cancelled

The scheduled Labor Day Softball Tournament will be rescheduled after further notice, according to organizer Froilan Camacho Jr.

Camacho, a baseball manager and coach of the Jets in the Saipan Little League and the Saipan Baseball League, did not give details of the cancelation.

Saipan still recovering from the destruction brought by Typhoon Soudelor could be the main reason.

The weekend tournament was scheduled from Sept. 4 to 6 at the Capital Hill softball field.

Camacho made an early announcement in May and July to give interested teams ample time to prepare their respective rosters. Registration fee is $150.

Fourteen slots in the men’s and six in the women’s side were allotted for the teams.

The three-day tournament, once it pushes through, will follow a double-elimination round format where official rules of International Softball Federation will be followed.

Trophy, cash, and other special prizes await the winning team.

For more information on the cancellation, call Camacho at 6642814 or email him at camacho_775@hotmail.com.
