Salvation Army to hold last day of disaster soup kitchen today
The Salvation Army will be having its last day of mass feeding today.
The organization has been providing meals to the public since the week Typhoon Soudelor hit Saipan on Aug. 2.
Last Wednesday, the Salvation Army and the feeding center near Kagman market being organized by Church 360, Kagman Community Church, and Southern Baptist Disaster Relief hit a milestone, having served a total of 40,000 meals.
“We actually held it open longer than what was actually needed,” said Salvation Army pastor Wayne Gillespie.
The Kagman feeding center will continue with their mass feeding until Sept. 10 from 12pm to 3pm, according to Joy Jones.
Gillespie said Salvation Army will return to their normal soup kitchen operations next week Friday, Sept. 11.
Gillespie added that they will be going out to do field work now “to do assessments, to visit people who did not qualify for assistance.”
Aside from needs assessment, the Salvation Army will also do case work and spiritual counseling.
“After that we’ll be transitioning into long-term recovery which is unmet needs,” Gillespie said.
The Salvation Army is part of and is working closely with the Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster.
