Castro is FilTaga August ace

Greg Castro became the FilTaga August Ace of the Month held last Aug. 23 at the Coral Ocean Point golf course.

Castro, who has a 10 handicap, shot a 41 and 42 at the front and back to finish second behind Paul Bea, the April Ace.

Bea, for topping the August Ace, still got the cash prize as he already qualified in the club’s yearend tournament.

Castro finished with a net score of 73 to finish two strokes behind Bea’s 71 (52 and 49, 30 handicap).

Vic Roman (January), Jhun Ortiz (February), Ernie Lopez (March), Bea (April), Larry Pascual (May), William Retardo (June), and July co-Aces Freddie Cataluna (A) and Ruben Avendano (B) are in the club finals to be held in January 2016.

Dan Ganacias came in third with scores of 44 and 43 for an 87 gross and with a 13 handicap earning him a 74 net.

Rene Batallones, with an eight handicap, submitted 44 and 39 for an 83 gross and a 75 net, while Pascual shot a 46 and 45 at the front and back for a 91 giving the 12-handicapper a 79.

John Matsumoto and Nestor Siruelo finished tied for sixth to seventh places with a final score of 92.

Matsumoto, who has a 21 handicap, fired 57 and 56 for 113 while Siruelo had scores of 57 and 55 for 112 but has a 20 handicap for that 92.

Bea is the par-3 nearest to the pin winner at hole No. 7, while Ganacias and Matsumoto duplicating the feat at holes No. 12 and 14. Nobody won in No. 3.

FilTaga’s September Ace will be held on Sept. 20, Sunday, at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort’s west course. Tee off time is at 12:30pm.
