EVM receives cascade of donations for relief efforts

The Empty Vessel Ministry continues to receive donations for its relief efforts on Saipan.

Sen. Sixto Igisomar (R-Saipan) gave the organization 25 5-gallon water and cash donation of $300 to be used for water refills.

“It’s a lot of refill and it’s a blessing. Families are hurting. To get free water, right now I think that’s the best thing,” EVM’s Rose Smith said.

Igisomar said he donated to EVM so as to reach as many people in the community.

“The day after the typhoon, my wife and I have been passing out water,” Igisomar said. They were able to give up to 400 cases of water in villages such as Kagman, Tanapag, San Roque, and San Antonio. He also gave water to the American Red Cross-NMI Chapter, United4Saipan, and the Salvation Army.

Igisomar said the funds for the donations came from his office.

A $1,000 check was also donated to EVM by the Lady Diann Torres Foundation, a new organization started by Diann Torres, wife of Lt. Gov. Ralph DLG Torres.

Pacifica Insurance Underwriters also donated $500 to EVM as well as the Northern Marianas Insurance Association.

“This is a big help so that we are able to continue providing water. Families will be able to refill up to three times and if we continue to receive more support, we would like to help families get water until they recover from the typhoon,” Smith said.

Aside from water, EVM continues to give out clothes, shoes, and other household items to those who are in need. They said about 1,500 individuals have received free items at their EVM outreach store.

They were able to receive clothes from Karidat, Sons of Saipan, Island Apparel, Marianas Young Professionals, Rota and Guam residents, as well as families and individuals on island.

EVM is also awaiting a shipment from Hawaii that contains more clothes, blankets, futons, batteries, flashlights, tents, bug spray, and other necessities.

EVM is located in Gualo Rai on Middle Road across EZ Mart, on the second floor of Kylies Bakery. Families or individuals who need assistance with clothing, water, and basic needs are welcome or they can call 285-2197 or 483-0162.
