While recovery efforts continue on Saipan in the wake of Typhoon Soudelor, which battered the territory on Aug. 2, the Kagman Community Church, with the support of Triple J (Five Star Wholesale Foods) and Jones & Guerrero (Micronesian Brokers Wholesale), Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, Church 360, and the Salvation Army opened a feeding center on Aug. 15 at the Kagman Community Church, serving food to those in need.

This operation, which consists of rice, beef, chicken, fresh vegetables, canned goods, milk, juice, bottled water and paper products, will provide some comfort to hundreds of residents over the next few weeks. The  feeding center has received many volunteers from Kagman Community Church, Church 360, Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, and the greater Kagman community.

Wayne Gillespie, director of the Salvation Army, coordinated the partnership between these groups, shared his experience, and volunteered time and effort to ensure the feeding center was successful. He expects the center to feed up to 1,000 people daily.

“While Saipan is still a long way from recovery, when community partners help to provide this type of relief, it can ease some of the burden placed on so many residents, as everyone continues to do their best to move forward,” said Gillespie. (KCC)
