More than 2K homes inspected; financial aid now to $4.3M
Total housing inspections conducted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency has reached 2,005 households, an update from the CNMI Joint Information Center said.
As of Wednesday, more than 7,500 registrations have been received by the FEMA, and more than $4.29 million have been approved for disaster-related assistance.
Other FEMA updates include the installation almost 90 concrete utility poles on CNMI.
Around 58 wells are currently operable with 4.7 million gallons of potable water being pumped into the system daily.
For transportation, the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport and the Port of Saipan have both resumed 24/7 operations. For communications, nine of 10 commercial cellular sites are back online with emergency power, the FEMA also said.
About 81 generators are currently being used for continuing additional assessments and installations.
So far, some 8,826 cubic yards debris has been cleared.
Survivors are still being encouraged to register for assistance.
Reminders
FEMA is reminding survivors that the funds they receive should be used only for disaster-related needs.
“Survivors are reminded to use disaster grants wisely, and those who receive funds from FEMA will get a letter outlining what those funds should be used for. They are intended for disaster-related needs,” the agency said.
The FEMA advisory further said if the applicant spends the money on anything other than the purpose for which the payment is intended, “no additional assistance may be granted if the need arises in the future.”
FEMA is encouraging all survivors or those affected by the typhoon to register for assistance.
Individuals and households on Saipan can register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-3362; those who have a speech disability or hearing loss and use TTY, should call 1-800-462-7585. Multilingual interpreters are available at the FEMA registration number, including Chinese, Tagalog, Japanese, and Korean. They can also apply online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov.
