Berdax holds off Warriors in Budweiser softball, 15-9

Berdax's leadoff man Vaughn Hofschneider batted 4 for 5 with a RBI and three runs in Wednesday's CSA-2nd Budweiser Softball League men's pairing against the Warriors held on Capitol Hill Field. (Walter Cepeda Sutherland)  Berdax outlasted the Warriors, 15-9, as the Chamolinian Softball Association’s 2nd Budweiser Softball League men’s division continued Wednesday at the Capitol Hill Ballfield.

The victory improved Berdax’s win-loss record to 6-3, while the Warriors fell to a slate of four wins with a handful of losses.

Also on Wednesday, Manelos (6-3) pulled out an 8-run rally in the last inning to overcome X-clusive (4-6), 12-9, for a share of the fourth spot with Berdax, while second-ranked the Man Amigos (8-1) routed Talu Fahn (2-9), 21-10.

Natibu (9-1) still leads the field by a half game with Gagu Eyez (7-2), Saipal (5-5), Your Balls (5-3), Team Elias (4-4), Team Familia (4-6), G-Ballers (3-6), 6-Pack (2-5), and Managaha (0-9) making up the rest of the men’s division.

In addition, the women’s division standings show Check It Out (5-1) still in front; just one game ahead of defending champions Sakudi (5-2) with 670 Babes (3-3), Enamo Meta (2-5) and the Rookies (1-5) filling out the rest of the order.

Berdax 15, Warriors 9

The Warriors worked out an early 6-5 edge in the first inning off seven hits, including a trio of RBI singles by Chris Pangelinan, Ton Pangelinan, and Marley Techur, an RBI double by Sidney Kani, and a two-RBI double from Josh Garde.

Berdax managed its runs from a two-RBI base rip by Ben Taisacan and a pair of RBI singles by Jack Diaz and Shine Tenorio earlier in the frame.

Berdax then went ahead, 9-6, in the second inning with seven hits, including an RBI double by Jesse Tenorio, a two-RBI single by Taisacan, and an RBI base knock from Aling Ogumoro.

The Warriors’ offense came to a screeching halt after the initial uprising, while Berdax added two more runs in the third inning from errors and an RBI base smash by Franco Flores and another run came home in the fourth from Dung Tenorio. He then drove in Ogumoro who reached on a one-out double.

The count then shifted, 13-7, after both squads worked around a run in the fifth inning.

Berdax went on to add two insurance runs in the top of the sixth from a pair of RBI singles by Dave Camacho Jr. and Vaughn Hofschneider and held the Warriors to just two runs in the final stand.

Berdax’s Hofschneider batted 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs. Warriors’ Garde went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.

Manelos 12, X-clusive 9

X-clusive managed a 2-1 edge after the first inning off just two hits, which received some help from errors and a sacrifice fly by Fred Sato.

X-clusive’s Ralph Yumul then drove home Dennis Ngeskebei for another run in the second inning, after which J.J. Cabrera made it a 4-1 game in the third when he brought in Ben Sablan.

X-clusive then piled on five more runs in the fourth inning off five hits for a promising 9-1 lead.

Jon Guerrero bashed a two-RBI double and his teammates loaded the bases for an RBI walk and a pair of RBI singles by Mike Manas and John Reyes.

X-clusive’s bats cooled in the last three innings and it turned out to be Manelos’ turn to start knocking the ball around the field.

Manelos cracked four hits for three runs in the fifth inning to pull within a handful, 4-9, heading into the sixth inning.

Manelos then exploded with eight runs in the bottom of the sixth and held strong in the final stand for the win.

At the plate, Manelos pounded eight hits including an RBI base rip by Yubert Alepuyo, a two-run home run by Pete Tomokane, a two-RBI single by Pat Alepuyo, and an RBI base poke by Mendiola. X-clusive only managed a runner at first base in the last inning of regulation

Manelos’ Nick Cruz batted 3-for-3 with two runs.

Man Amigos 21, Talu Fahn 10

Man Amigos sprung ahead, 11-5, in the second dinning with 10 runs off 11 hits.

Jess Guerrero bagged an RBI single, Mike Sablan bashed a two-RBI single, Ben Jones ripped a two-RBI double, John Reyes left the yard for two runs, and J.J. Laniyo pulled around on an RBI base hit. Two other runs came in off errors.

Man Amigos then trudged forward, 15-6, in the third inning with four more runs off three hits.

Jerry Ayuyu belted a two-RBI single, Joey Dela Cruz followed with an RBI double, and Jeff Cabrera brought him home with a sacrifice fly.

Man Amigos pressed on and put up four additional runs in the fourth inning off another six hits. James Fleming bagged an RBI single and Reyes connected with a two-RBI base rip.

The team added two more runs in the fifth off errors and a sacrifice fly by Guerrero and held heir opponents to just four runs in the final stand. Talu Fahn’s Floyd Dela Cruz jacked a three-run homer, but his team was way too far behind.

Man Amigos’ Reyes swung 3-for-4 for four RBIs and another run.
